A Hero in the Hurdles
15/08/2012 11:35:22 AM
With many of the more well-known Jamaican hurdle favorites out of their respective final races, many seemed to forget about a man called Hansle Parchment. After quietly clocking 13.32 in the rounds of the 110m hurdles, and then a 2nd place time of 13.14, which set a new National Record, Hansle appeared at the August 8th finals in fine form. He did not disappoint. He arrived at the finish line in 13.12 seconds, a new National Record and a bronze-medal winning time. He stood on the podium to collect his well-deserved medal with a face of humility, the entire island now familiar with his name.
Although his hometown of Cashew Bush St. Thomas wildly celebrated his historic medal – the first of its kind in the 110m hurdles –Hansle Parchment thinks the work has only just begun, and although happy, he will be aiming for the gold or silver next. He has been quoted as saying "13.12 is an excellent time, I think. I believe that much more work can be done, so that's the aim for me right now, just to continue working hard so I can keep lowering it (national record)."We look forward to seeing our new hurdle hero make good on his goals.
