The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games has initiated a partnership programme whereby schools in Beijing are twinned with a school in countries taking part in the Olympics in Beijing. The Ministry of Education has selected the Jesse Ripoll Primary School and they have been ‘twinned’ with Fengtai No 1 Primary School

The Heart-to-Heart Partnership Programme, jointly designed by BOCOG and China’s Ministry of Education, is part of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Education Programme to promote the theme of “One World One Dream” and spread the Olympic ideals amongst all youth. Since launching the programme in mid-December 2006, BOCOG has matched more than 200 primary and secondary schools in Beijing with the 203 NOC’s for exchange relationships.

A number of exciting activities are planned during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Students from Fengati No 1 Primary School will welcome the Jamaica team at the Olympic Village. Students will also support athletes of the Jamaica team at competition sessions. Members of the Jamaica team will also be invited to visit the Fengati No 1 Primary School during their stay in Beijing.

The Fengati No 1 Primary School is in the Fengati District in Beijing. It has 2606 students and 153 Staff. The school was established in 1963 and has been attaching high importance to art education. It has established a wind orchestra. On many occasions it has won first prize in the Beijing Art Contest for Primary and Secondary School Students, and organized Fengati New Year Concerts. In August 2005, the school’s chorus troupe was invited to Australia to take part in the 2005 International Children Cultural and Art Festival held in Sydney.

The school’s motto is “practice, diligence, creation , independence”, and her goal is set up as “developing the school into a modernized happy home with beautiful environment, high quality teachers and all rounded students characterized by art education.
